Serum Ceruloplasmin in Liver Cirrhosis

Abstract
The behavior of serum ceruloplasmin was investigated in liver cirrhosis. Increased levels of Cu protein was found in 21 out of 28 patients with alcoholic cirrhosis and hemo-chromatosis and in all 4 patients with biliary cirrhosis. There was a significant correlation between serum ceruloplasmin and a2-globulin levels. It is suggested that the impairment of biliary excretion and of estrogen metabolism, and the enhancement of [alpha]2-globulin synthesis can account for these findings.
