Relativistic beaming and the optical magnitudes of QSOs

Abstract
We have compared the optical magnitudes of weak, lobe-dominated QSOs and strong, core-dominated QSOs. We find differences in the average magnitudes of the two classes of objects which imply at least one magnitude of enhancement of the optical continuum radiation in core-dominated sources if the Orr & Browne unified scheme of QSOs is correct. We suggest some further observational tests of the scheme.
