Abstract
A simple portable pneumatic device for automatic external cardiac massage is described. It is capable of producing an arterial blood pressure between 80 and 40 mm. Hg and a systemic blood flow sufficient to maintain life in dogs. Its rate and thrust are infinitely variable, and artificial respiration can be given in a pause during massage. It is suggested that this is a safer, more reliable, and more efficacious way of applying external cardiac compression than manual massage. Keywords
