Abstract
Six years ago the American Surgical Association, in partnership with the American College of Surgeons, launched a global self-assessment of delivery of surgical care in the United States. This Study of Surgical Services for the United States (dubbed SOSSUS) was under the chairmanship of Dr. George Zuidema, of Johns Hopkins. Support was obtained from several private foundations as well as from the government (DHEW). A summary report was published in the summer of 1975, and a "Long Form Report" with full statistics and documentation will be published within the next several months.The Subcommittee on Surgical Manpower was my responsibility . . .
