Abstract
Albino rats were injd. with sulfanilamide and sulfapyridine and compared with controls injected with a known carcinogenic agent (1, 2, 5, 6, dibenzanthracene). Other controls were injd. with lard alone and another group received no injns. 20% of rats injected with sulfanilamide and 16 2/3% of rats injd. with sulfapyridine developed anaplastic, invasive transplantable spindle cell sarcomata at the injn. site. The dibenzanthracene controls developed similar tumors in 60% of the animals and no tumors occurred in the lard controls or the non-injd. controls. Discussion of the significance of these meager data warns against applying this information to higher spp. but considers the possibility of similarity to the coal tar bladder tumors and the implications of such similarity in humans. Keywords
