Abstract
Synopsis: Marine shell radiocarbon ages from Late-glacial strata suggest that the Paisley-Renfrew area was deglaciated before 13 150 B.P. (Arctica islandica). A younger minimum date of about 12 000 B.P. (Modiolus modiolus) is explained by the fact that this species is epifaunal and was living on a foundation of gravel containing already sub-fossil Arctica shells. Keywords
