Future Directions for Antarctic Environmental Studies

Abstract
Australia claims 42% of Antarctica and has therefore a responsibility to undertake research which improves knowledge of Antarctica and its interdependent ecosystem. Surprisingly, however, applied environmental studies are not a clearly identifiable element of the Australian program. In this important article the authors lay the basis for an informed debate on the need for an environmental studies program in Australian Antarc-tic research programs.
