Abstract
Emission of the atomic oxygen triplet at 1304 Å produced by electron impact on O2 and CO2 was passed through an absorption cell of thermal O(3P) at 300°K and peak optical depths near 2000. The transmission of the cell varied from 18% and 75%, depending on electron voltage, gas, and viewing angle. Interpretations of the Doppler broadening effect were made in terms of approximate linewidth, dissociation energy, and excited state symmetry. Keywords
