Abstract
A method is described for obtaining a value at the potential of a carbon bed which can be related to the pH of the electrolyte and the initial state of oxidation of the carbon surface. The results are interpreted according to a simplified picture of the ‘mixed electrode’ potential. This approach also indicates that the surface area of the carbon is an important potential-determining parameter. Keywords
