Abstract
The intestinal surface of piglets experimentally infected with CV777 coronavirus was studied at different time intervals using stereomicroscopy, histology and scanning electron microscopy. Epithelial cell desquamation was most severe on the jejunal villi at the onset of clinical signs. It was also seen in the ileum 6 h after the onset of clinical signs. The duodenum and colon remained normal. Villous fusion was noted from 24 h after onset of clinical signs. Mucosal surface alterations are compared to those seen in other enteropathogenic conditions of pigs. This publication has 16 references indexed in Scilit:
