Abstract
We present quantitative theoretical studies of the off-specular electron-energy-loss cross section for scattering from surface vibrations on the Ni(100) surface. We include the contribution from both surface and bulk phonons and thus describe the surface resonances found in experimental data. Our results are compared with data reported by Rocca, Lehwald, Ibach, and Rahman. The overall agreement between theory and experiment is very good. Keywords
