Abstract
Community pharmacists have been identified as being well-placed to perform a health promotion role. On average, in the UK, ten clients per pharmacy per day will seek the advice of a phannacist on minor symptoms. Performance of a health promotion role requires an awareness of rele problems underlying symptoms (such as lifestyle, diet and smoking) and a readiness to raise these. It also requires communication and counselling skills where the pharmacist is prepared to listen to, and respond constructively to, client's questions and wishes.
