25% GLUTARALDEHYDE SOLUTION FOR WARTS

Abstract
To the Editor.— Since writing my previous letter, "Buffered Glutaraldehyde Solution for Warts," which appeared in the Archives (104:96, 1971), I have been using unbuffered, undiluted 25% solution of glutaraldehyde for the treatment of all types of warts. Tests in various laboratories have revealed that the buffering to alkalinity is very temporary in nature. One laboratory told me that the solution at pH 7.5 lasted only 30 minutes after buffering. Also, the stronger 25% solution appears to work faster on warts of all kinds. Rarely, the skin around the warts becomes irritated when treated with the 25% glutaraldehyde. This enhanced the disappearance of the wart without further treatment in two cases. To date, I have treated over 100 patients with various types of warts.
