Abstract
A range of pragmatic assessment instruments available for use with adults with aphasia is reviewed in relation to a specified perspective of pragmatic meanings (Bates 1976). The reviewed assessment instruments are divided into five hroad categories. These categories are: (1) observational profiles, (2) communicative efficiency measures, (3) standardized testing in real and/or simulated life situations, (4) family/significant others questionnaires/analyses, and (5) composite assessments. This specified perspective provides a basis for comparing the instruments' features and can assist clinicians in selecting appropriate assessment approaches. Keywords
