Abstract
The official version of what is meant by the skill mix approach to nursing is that it is a review of the make-up of the workforce to elicit the best range of skills, utilizing differing grades, to meet a variety of patient needs. In other words, it is about finding the cheapest alternative possible. Skill mix is about cost-effectiveness, nothing more, nothing less — and no amount of political rhetoric will change that. Keywords
