UPPER LIMB BLOOD FLOW DURING THIOPENTONE-HALOTHANE ANAESTHESIA

Abstract
The forearm blood flow changes produced by halothane anaesthesia after thiopentone induction were studied in 38 patients using strain gauge plethysmography. The effects of endotracheal intubation and surgery, premedication and nitrous oxide were also considered, and for this purpose the patients were allocated at random into four groups, the factors being successively eliminated until in the last group only thiopentone-halo-thane remained. It was found that thiopentone-halothane anaesthesia decreased the blood flow to the forearm without any obvious effect from the other factors considered.
