Correctional Osteotomy for Metatarsus Primus Varus and Hallux Valgus

Abstract
Ninety feet in fifty-one patients have been subjected to distal osteotomy of the first metatarsal bone for metatarsus primus varus and hallux valgus. The technique described by Mitchell, Fleming, Allen, Glenney, and Sanford has been used. The results have been satisfactory in all but six feet. Unsatisfactory results were associated with excessive shortening of the first ray or dorsal displacement of the distal fragment. In both instances the patients had metatarsalgia and calluses beneath the second metatarsal heads.
