Abstract
A new ratio pyrometer is described the indication of which is proportional to the ratio of intensities of thermal radiation emitted by an incandescent object into two narrow spectral bands within the visible region. The ratio is computed automatically and continuously by servoattenuating the entire incoming light flux in such a way that the intensity in one of the two passbands is kept constant, regardless of the intensity of the incoming light. Due to its basic principle the instrument reading is independent of the magnitude of the target emissivity. In the present setup, temperature differences of the order of 1 deg can be resolved in a temperature range between 1400 and 2900 K. Thus, the pyrometer is especially suited for investigation concerning plasma confinement in Q-devices.Keywords
