Abstract
Known concentrations of nitrogen dioxide in the range of 3 to 11 ppm were dynamically prepared with permeation tubes and then absorbed in a triethanolamine solution or on a triethanolamine-impregnated molecular sieve surface. At all concentrations tested, the collection efficiencies for both absorbing methods exceeded 95%. The stoichiometric factor of NO2(gas) to NO2(ion) ranged from 0.56 to 0.76 and averaged 0.63 after 49 tests. Field tests with the solid absorber at a nitric acid plant compared favorably with detector tubes from one manufacturer, while tubes from another manufacturer were consistently low by approximately 50%.Keywords
