Abstract
The syntheses and Mossbauer spectra of four sulphur-chelated compounds of tin(11) are reported. A single-crystal X-ray structure determination of Sn(dedtc)2 has established that the molecule possesses a strongly distorted trigonal bipyramidal configuration with a sterically active lone pair of electrons occupying an equatorial coordination position. While the Mossbauer quadrupole splitting for tin(11) compounds, in general, is consistent with a sterically active pair of electrons, its magnitude appears to be more sensitive to the nature of the ligand rather than the tin stereochemistry. Keywords
