Abstract
The diamagnetic cross section from neutron scattering for electrons in a magnetic field is considered, and shown to be a small effect for most systems. Band electrons with low effective mass m* and large g in Landau states are, however, found to have relatively large cross sections near the forward direction and it is proposed that Bragg scattering from a Wigner condensed phase of such electrons might be observable in spite of the low densities required. Detailed conditions for this scattering are given for several small-gap semiconductors. Inelastic scattering from such electrons is also considered, but the cross sections are likely to be unobservable with present techniques. Keywords
