Abstract
An investigation of image effect error in an apparatus for magnetization measurement in which a superconducting solenoid provides the magnetizing field has been made by using a current carrying coil to simulate a magnetic specimen. The apparatus was designed to minimize the image effect error: free space specimen flux penetration into the volume occupied by superconductor would be 11%. An effect giving a 0.5% change of flux enclosed by the detection coil was found, but this was found to be independent of specimen moment and solenoid field to within the experimental precision of 0.05%.Keywords
