Abstract
A technique is described for testing the resistance of small grains to the green bug (Toxoptera graminum (Rond.)) in a controlled- environment in sectary having a year-round average temperature of 75° F. and in which artificial light is used. Test varieties grown in flats covered with plastic cages are subjected to uniform infestation for 10 to 14 days, and then rated according to the leaf area damaged on each plant. Since the environment is well controlled, differences in reaction of the plants to the green- bugs are most likely due to their inherent characteristics.
