Abstract
Onslowia endophytica Searles exhibits an unusual range of morphology in unialgal culture. Filaments developing from propagules are straighter and more robust than those developing from spores from unilocular sporangia. Both types of filaments form both propagules and unilocular sporangia. At 20°C under 8 h days unispore germlings can form filaments with broader, shorter cells and bearing plurilocular zoidangia. No zoid fusions were observed. Although such variability of morphology is unusual in Sphacelariales, O. endophytica is nevertheless considered to have a fundamentally isomorphic life history.
