Abstract
The solution of systems of equations of the Wiener‐Hopf type leads directly to the problem of factoring matrix‐valued functions of one or more complex variables. The matrix‐factorization problem is solved here for matrices that can be diagonalized by a similarity transformation and also have eigenvalues whose logs are analytic and quadratically integrable in a set of strips. As an application of the technique, Green's tensor for the elastic wave equation is factored. Keywords
