Study of the Kinetics of Hydrogen Evolution Reaction on Nickel‐Zinc Powder Electrodes

Abstract
The electrodes prepared by pressing Ni and Zn powders (50%–100% Ni) at room temperature were studied for the hydrogen evolution reaction in after leaching out zinc in 30% . Although the exchange current densities of these electrodes are similar, the Tafel slopes and decrease with the decrease in the nickel content as the surface roughness increases. The mechanism and kinetics of the HER were studied using the ac impedance technique. It was found that this reaction proceeds via Volmer‐Heyrovsky mechanism, and the kinetic parameters were determined.
