Abstract
THE relevance of schistosomiasis to medicine in Boston as a paradigm for its relevance to medicine everywhere is the subject of this report.Schistosomiasis as a Major Global ProblemThe first question that arises is whether Boston has any concern for an infectious disease that affects 200 million persons, most of whom live in the rural tropics, and is spreading as the Agency for International Development and the World Bank support agricultural development through dams and irrigation. Today, we are constantly aware of (and often irritated by) difficult ethical questions concerning the individual patient: euthanasia, abortion, and medical experimentation are . . .Keywords
