Abstract
A new mode of admn. of steroid hormones is introduced. The crystalline steroids are dissolved in benzyl alcohol, and from this soln. emulsions are prepd. When the emulsions are diluted with an equal volume or more of water (or serum) the benzyl alcohol dissolves in the water, resulting in the formation of a crystalline precipitate. When these emulsions are injd. intramusc. the precipitation of crystals also takes place. The duration of the effect of oily solns., emulsions and crystal suspensions of testosterone propionate and estradiol monobenzoate was detd. in some animal expts., the testosterone prepns. being admd. to capons and the estradiol prepns. to spayed rats. The effects produced by the emulsions were comparable to or even better than those of crystal suspensions. Keywords
