Coping with the sexuality of the disabled

Abstract
Taking as a starting point, papers on sexuality of disabled people and papers on attitudes and representations toward their sexuality, we have demonstrated that the coping of those people is directed by an ideology of rationalisation of sexuality. This ideology is expressed in different ways, with physically disabled and mentally retarded people. This fact makes clear the importance of the handicapped referent over the coping. Procreation is strongly supported for the physically disabled people (paraplegics). Mentallly retarded people are strictly forbidden to procreate: this appears especially with the sterilisation of mentally retarded women. Ausgehend von Beiträgen über die Sexualität behinderter Menschen sowie über Einstellungen zu und die Darstellung von ihrer Sexualität, haben wir aufgezeigt, daß das Zurechtkommen dieser Personen durch eine Ideologie der Rationalisierung von Sexualität gelenkt wird. Diese Ideologie wird in bezug auf physisch behinderte und geistigbehinderte Personen in unterschiedlicher Weise ausgedrückt. Diese Tatsache zeigt deutlich die Bedeutung der Behinderungsart im Hinblick auf das Zurechtkommen. In bezug auf physisch behinderte Personen (Paraplegiker) werden Zeugung und Fortpflanzung stark befürwortet. Geistigbehinderten Personen wird dies streng verboten. Dies wird besonders deutlich durch die Tatsache der Sterilisation geistigbehinderter Frauen. Partant de l'analyse secondaire de publications portant sur la sexualité des personnes handicapées et sur les représentations et attitudes à l'égard de leur sexualité, nous avons montré que les pratiques de prise en charge à l'égard de ces personnes sont orientées globalement par une idéologie de rationalisation de la sexualité. Cette idéologie, s'exprime différemment selon qu'il s'agit de handicapés physiques ou de handicapés mentaux. Cela fait apparaître le caractère déterminant du référent handicapé sur l'orientation des pratiques de prise en charge. Alors que la procréation est fortement encouragée pour les handicapés physiques (paraplégiques), les handicapés mentaux sont frappés d'un interdit de procréation qui se manifeste notamment par la stérililsation des jeunes femmes handicapées mentales.
