Abstract
A new method has been devised to locate radioactive elements in tissues and results are reported to illustrate this method using both radio-iodine and radio-phosphorus. The organs containing the radio-elements are sectioned and mounted on a slide according to routine histologic procedures (paraffin embedded). The slides are coated with collodion and then covered with a melted photographic emulsion, which is evenly spread over the tissue section. After a period of time varying with the conditions of the experiment, the slide is developed and fixed, as if it were a photographic plate. Counter-staining with histologic dyes is carried out later through the photographic emulsion. Under the microscope, such slides show black granules wher- ever a radio-element is located and thus make possible its accurate histologic localization.
