RICKETS IN RATS

Abstract
The response of rachitic rats to the administration of cod liver oil or irradiation shows a lessened irritability, and to the addition of phosphates a heightened irritability of the neuro-muscular system. Acid phosphate additions cause a diminished, and alkaline phosphate diets an increased, irritability. As measured by the galvanic current, the condition resulting from the addition of phosphates to the diet of rachitic rats should clearly be called tetany.
