Abstract
A novel model is presented for the prediction of the joint statistics of rain intensity in distant sites to be used in telecommunications applications where the simultaneous occurrence of rain attenuation in many earth terminals is of importance. Data referred to various time bases are compared, and empirical best-fitting formulas are provided, giving a first estimate of the joint probability of simultaneous events, exclusively as a function of the site separation. A model is also presented for the evaluation of a statistical dependence index, chi , expressed by the ratio between the actual joint probability and the probability in case of statistical independence. This index makes allowance for rain characteristics of the sites and expresses the structure of the meteorological scenario. Keywords
