Abstract
The heat capacity of LiCuCl3·2H2O has been measured in the temperature range 2°—9°K. A λ‐type anomaly in the heat capacity curve has been observed at 4.40±0.02°K. This has been identified as the Néel temperature for a paramagnetic‐antiferromagnetic transition. The magnetic entropy associated with this transition is 1.35 cal/mole deg which agrees with the theoretical value to within 2% if the spin of the magnetic ion is taken as ½ in R log (2S+1). The fraction of the magnetic entropy above the Néel temperature is 0.48 which indicates a considerable amount of short‐range ordering of the spins of the magnetic ions. Keywords
