Abstract
YOUNG R. C., FRANCIS J. D. and YOUNG C. H. (1994) Flexibility in small manufacturing firms and regional industrial formations, Reg. Studies 28, 27–38. Two surveys in different regions of New York State found that most firms were flexible. They did custom work, used computerized processing and changed or innovated products. However, most of the firms sold to larger manufacturing firms and few to retail trade. Thus, the flexibility was being used to make the core industries of the region more efficient and helping them weather the recession. Large firms were not being replaced by small. Keywords
