Abstract
1,2,3,4,5,6‐Hexamethylcyclohexenyl cations are obtained on protonation of 1,2,3,4, 5endo, 6endo‐hexamethylbicyclo[2.2.0]hexene and of cis‐1,2,3,4,5,6‐hexamethylcyclohexa‐1,3‐diene. The structure of the ions was proved unambiguously by the chemical shifts and coupling constants of the NMR signals, by deuterium labelling experiments and by their chemical reactivity. The mechanism of the formation of the ions is discussed. Keywords
