Hyperbaric Oxygenation

Abstract
ALTHOUGH logic dictates that many pathologic processes characterized by diffuse tissue hypoxia should be benefited by hyperbaric oxygen ventilation, little scientific evidence supports such a broad therapeutic concept. The reason for this is apparent from a review of the factors that affect tissue oxygenation in addition to the arterial oxygen tension: the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood; the presence of an adequate arterial, venous and capillary circulation; and the specific oxygen requirements of the tissue under consideration.
