Abstract
On follow up of 150 patients with prostatic hyperplasia five to ten years after operation according to Deisting, 50 had succumbed and 9 failed to attend for examination. Thirty-eight patients had undergone reoperation; this consisted in repeated dilatation in 4 cases, prostatectomy in 26, and some other procedure in 8 cases. The remaining 53 patients were followed up. In 40 of these patients the residual urine amounted to only 0 to 50 ml, and in 30 the urine was free of bacteria. Thirty-four of 45 patients were fully continent, while 11 had some terminal drip or marked urgency. True incontinence was not present in any instance. Twenty-four passed urine only once or not at all at night. The results may, then, be said to be fairly good and the operative method is recommended under certain conditions. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
