Abstract
Photoconductivity in MgF2 containing F centres and F2 centres has been investigated over the spectral range from 3.0 eV to 5.8 eV with F centre concentrations ranging from 3*1015 cm-3 to 2*1017 cm-3. Evidence is presented that at concentrations above 3*1016 cm-3, F centres are the main electron traps in the crystal. From the temperature dependence of the photoresponse between 293K and 105K it is estimated that the relaxed excited state of the F centre is about 0.07 eV below the conduction band of the crystal. PHotoconductivity which originates from F2 centres has been investigated.
