Abstract
This paper introduces the subject of satellite communication in its broadest aspects, recounts its history and discusses the principal technical problems. It is primarily communications-oriented but relevant spacecraft and launch considerations are summarized. Tabular summaries of the world's satellite communication programs are given.Keywords
