Abstract
Until we can effectively prevent vertical transmission of HIV, the scope of the AIDS epidemic in children will reflect that of HIV infection in women of childbearing age. Current trends set the challenge: According to conservative estimates by the CDC, the death rate from HIV infection in women 15 to 44 years of age quadrupled between 1985 and 1988.Keywords
