Abstract
The autodetachment lifetime of the long-lived parent negative ion of hexafluorobenzene (C6F6) has been calculated theoretically and found to decrease with increasing electron energy. A comparison of the calculated and the measured lifetimes of the C6F–* 6 ion indicated that only 30 % of the possible modes of vibration effectively participate in the sharing of the ion's excess energy. Keywords
