Long-term Results of Biliary Reconstruction After Laparoscopic Bile Duct Injuries

Abstract
IATROGENIC INJURIES to the bile ducts are uncommon entities in clinical practice that have been encountered more frequently after the advent of laparoscopic surgery.1,2 The pattern of bile duct injuries occurring during laparoscopic cholecystectomy seems to differ from those injuries sustained during an open procedure; many occur in a more proximal location and the resultant strictures are more extensive. The fact that as many as 15% of such operative repairs for bile duct injuries had to be revised3 underscores the complexity of these injuries and the need for long-term follow-up.
