Abstract
The transit time of a circulating light pulse in a 10–1000 m long multinode optical fibre is used to measure the absolute length of the fibre and also its length variations with a reproducibility of ± 0.2 mm. The arrangement represents a fibre-optical strain gauge for use on long arbitrarily shaped paths. Keywords
