Growth Inhibition of Mycorrhizal Fungi by Gibberellin

Abstract
Pure cultures of mycorrhizal fungi were grown in liquid culture in the presence of varying concentrations of gibberellin. A comparison of mycelial dry weights showed that gibberellin inhibited the growth of all of the basidiomycetes which were tested, but had little effect on Cenococcum graniforme. It was suggested that both symbionts be considered when growth stimulants such as gibberellin are to be applied to tree seedlings.
