Abstract
What9s almost as common as a cold, but, for most sufferers, far more uncomfortable? Urinary tract infections. Now, two teams of researchers are developing what may prove to be effective new vaccines against the infections (see p. 607). Not only do they promise to reduce the number of urinary tract infection cases, but the strategy followed by one of the groups--targeting a single protein that enables the bacteria to latch onto their target cells--could help researchers devise vaccines against a host of other infections.
