Properties of Full-Color Fluorescent Display Devices Excited by a UV Light-Emitting Diode

Abstract
Various inorganic and organic fluorescent films are excited using a newly developed ultraviolet light-emitting diode (UV-LED), and their optical properties are measured and discussed. The three pure primary colors are realized by the UV-LED irradiation and sufficient luminance for application to full-color displays in a room-lighting environment, is obtained. Film thickness dependence of the luminance is investigated, and UV irradiation on the frontside of the fluorescent films is preferred to realize high-efficiency devices.
