Abstract
An algorithm is presented, describing how to choose the weighting matrix of a quadratic criterion function so that the dynamics of the step responses to the set point have the specified decoupled form. By employing a reference model, the performance of the controller can be pre-estimated more visually than by pole assignment. LQ-controllers are robust and not very sensitive to process variations. Therefore, the controller design procedure has the advantages of both optimal control and model matching. Keywords
