Abstract
The definition is introduced of a balanced system through the singular value decomposition of the extended reachability and observability matrices. On this basis, two methods for determining the balanced representation are presented, the properties of the balanced systems are derived and the usefulness of the balancing method to system reduction is demonstrated. Keywords
