Abstract
Band recovery data were used to estimate recovery and survival rates of mottled ducks (A. fulvigula) in Florida. Harvest survey information was used in conjunction with these estimates to calculate population size and to project a finite rate of population growth. Analysis of 1391 bandings and 205 recoveries suggested a population recovery rate of 0.09 (SE = 0.01) and a survival rate of 0.37 (SE = 0.05). Annual survival appears to be substantially lower than that of mallards (A. platyrhynchos) and black ducks (A. rubripes). Available data suggest a declining mottled duck population in Florida (P = 0.09). Possible causes of a decline are discussed, and recommendations are made to resolve uncertainties regarding population status. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
