Abstract
If the vascular adjustments required to ensure preferential perfusion of the placenta do not occur, a fetus may be malnourished despite normal dietary nutrition in the mother. Conditions predisposing to such fetal malnutrition include, among others, toxemia and supine hypotension. Methods are outlined for identifying the fetus at risk and for anticipating and countering fetal distress during labor. Keywords
